Wednesday March 24th, 2010 Student Council Liveblog

Open Forum
Danielle and Daylon from MCSC talking about stipend increases and how the math should be broken down into numbers. Beautifully well said; it's about seeing what and how the time is being spent not necessarily what chairs are doing in summary. (Editor's note: it's obvious who wants these stipend changes to pass).

I should know his name (Charlie) but a hip-hop artist here is talking about a hip-hop conference.

Jarius King here talking about Breaking the Law and Katrina Flores is up as well.

Jonah is talking about the petition to get faculty signed on to the textbook committee.

Eric Heywood talks about the ambiguity of the bylaws related to appointees to student council.

Colin Ingram thinks that the stipends shouldn't be labeled as "not arbitrary".

Tina is talking about U.S.S.A. and SAFRA. As well as "Take Back the Night".

Agenda Rearranging
Breaking the Law is moving to the front, as well as the Diversity Line item for a budget transfer.

Chair Reports
Jonah (Academic Affairs) talks about FAFSA week. Steven (Diversity) is working on compiling a report about the diversity dialogue (Editor's note: I was there) that happened last Thursday. This list isn't complete, I decided not to get Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Student Print Budget
2/3 invoked so that we could approve the budget. The budget is approved.

Spring Student Org Fair Transfer
Approved.

Bylaw Committee
Tyler wants to create a (in Kurt's words) "technocratic committee" to evaluate the bylaws.

Breakin' the Law
Event grant passes at approximately $20,000.

Diversity Transfer
It's like $20 they want to put in the diversity account to pay for food for the dialogue.

Here's the ticket item:
Putting Stipends into Bylaws
Manes bylaws are in and they basically say we can increase our own stipends and then take the stipends if someone takes the position next year.
"What matters is what we do on behalf of the students, you can judge a government that is doing its job right if the governed don't care... it doesn't matter to me..."
This is postponed until next week. I've got a few cards to play here.

SSFC Intern
Carl Fergus is talking about having an intern support SSFC (Student Service Finance Committee) in talking to GSSFs (General Student Service Fund). SSFC gets an intern.

Textbook Committee
Jonah Zinn and the Academic Affairs committee is looking at creating a Shared Gov. Committee and Melissa Hanley agrees with the intent!

Student Judiciary Bylaws
Postponed until next week.

Adjourned.
